Charisma Isn’t Born, It’s Forged in Your Lows

Blog Kristi Jenkins June 23, 2026

One of the highlights of Elevate 2026, the conference I hosted this January, was having Kat as one of our featured speakers.

Kat is an incredible speaker, entrepreneur, and friend, and her session resonated deeply with so many attendees. Entrepreneurs, business owners, and individuals from all walks of life connected with her message because it challenged a belief so many of us hold:

That some people are simply born with confidence, presence, and charisma.

You know the people I'm talking about.

The ones who walk into a room and immediately draw people in.

The ones who seem naturally confident, magnetic, and comfortable in their own skin.

But one of the biggest takeaways from Kat's message was this:

Charisma isn’t something you’re born with.
It’s something you build.

And more often than not, it’s built in the moments no one else sees.

It’s Not Built in the High Moments

We tend to associate charisma with visibility.

Being social.
Being outgoing.
Being “on.”

But the truth is, those moments are just the result.

What I love about this perspective is that it shifts where the real work happens.

Because charisma isn’t formed when everything is going well.

It’s formed in:

  • The quiet decisions

  • The uncomfortable conversations

  • The moments where you choose who you’re going to be

That’s where it starts to take shape.

Your Lows Refine Who You Are

There’s something about being in a low season that strips everything back.

What’s left is clarity.

Clarity around:

  • What you actually want

  • What you’re no longer willing to tolerate

  • What matters and what doesn’t

And from there, something shifts.

You become more grounded.
More certain.
More intentional.

And that’s what people feel.

Boundaries Create Presence

One of the most overlooked parts of charisma is boundaries.

Not just saying yes, but knowing when to say no.

And saying it clearly.

What I’ve noticed is that when someone is confident in their boundaries, it changes the way they’re perceived.

There’s a steadiness to them.

They’re not trying to be everything to everyone.
They’re simply aligned with who they are.

And that creates a kind of presence that feels… effortless.

The Power of a Confident “No”

This is where things really shift.

Because a confident “no” doesn’t push people away, it actually does the opposite.

It creates respect.
It creates clarity.
It creates trust.

The right people don’t feel rejected by it.

They feel drawn to it.

Because it signals something deeper:

  • Self-awareness

  • Direction

  • Integrity

And those are the qualities that build real connection.

It’s One of Those Things You Can’t Fake

You can’t manufacture this kind of charisma.

It’s not about saying the right thing or presenting yourself a certain way.

It’s about doing the internal work that shapes how you show up, consistently.

And over time, that becomes visible.

Not in a loud way.

But in a way that feels grounded, calm, and confident.

Charisma Is Alignment, Not Attention

Charisma isn’t about being the most outgoing person in the room.

It’s about being the most aligned.

Knowing who you are.
Being clear in your decisions.
And showing up in a way that reflects that, every time.

That’s what people remember.

If there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s that the most magnetic people aren’t the ones trying the hardest.

They’re the ones who have done the work, quietly, intentionally, and with clarity.

And it shows.
