At the foothills of the Cascade Range, North Bend, Washington, is a picturesque city with a distinctive blend of natural beauty and small-town charm. Surrounded by towering mountains and lush evergreen forests, North Bend is a haven for outdoor enthusiasts and those seeking a close connection to nature. The city gained fame as the filming location for the iconic television series "Twin Peaks," adding a touch of mystery to its scenic allure. It was also the backdrop of one of my favorite movies from the 1990’s, The Vanishing. With its charming downtown area, characterized by locally-owned shops and cozy cafes, North Bend exudes a welcoming and friendly atmosphere. Outdoor recreation is a way of life in North Bend, with numerous hiking and biking trails, offering breathtaking views and a chance to explore the great outdoors. The Snoqualmie River runs through the heart of the city, adding to its scenic beauty. With a strong sense of community and a laid-back lifestyle, North Bend captures the essence of the Pacific Northwest, making it a sought-after destination for those seeking a balance between natural splendor and a close-knit community.

Here are a few of my favorite spots:

  • Rattlesnake Lake Recreation Area is a must in the spring or summer. The views can’t be beat and if offers trails for families of all ages and abilities, along with several picnic, swimming and fishing areas.
  • Il Paesano Ristorante Italiano is a favorite restaurant in North Bend with long ties to the community and the owner, Gianfranco, has had his culinary roots planted since the mid-1980’s. I highly recommend their Penne al Forno, which is a baked Bolognese and is often their nightly special!
  • If you’re a Twin Peaks fan, then you’ll appreciate how much the original Double R Diner from the television show stays true to it’s famous history at Twede's Cafe, where you can still get a slice of their iconic Cherry Pie.
